  • Consumer Information

An article from the Guardian on the 25th March 2006 that I thought interesting.
Theoretically, you've not just got a one-year manufacturer's warranty with an electronic item...

Faulty goods? You've still got rights when the guarantee runs out

"Shoppers are being sold short when expensive electrical goods break down. If a TV or fridge packs up just one day after an initial
one-year guarantee, customers are told they have to pay for the repair - but the truth is that retailers may be liable for up to six
    years."

"[The Sale of Goods Act] says goods must last a reasonable time - and that can be anything up to six years from the date of purchase"
    http://money.guardian.co.uk/howtocomplain/story/0,,1738830,00.html

The newpaper page itself has a table from Which? that suggests that items such as washing machines and TVs should last upwards of 5
    years.
